3 Tips For A Successful Dental Cleaning

A dental cleaning is a procedure that most people have experienced multiple times in their life. However, there are certain tips to ensuring that you have a good dental cleaning experience. Here are three tips for a successful dental cleaning.

Eat Before You Go

When you get your teeth cleaned, it will likely end with a fluoride treatment. This treatment does an excellent job of sealing in your teeth and giving them an extra layer of protection. However, as part of the process, you have to avoid eating or drinking for a whole 30 minutes after the fluoride is removed from your teeth. This can seem like an eternity if you haven't eaten or drunk anything in quite some time. A great way to combat this issue is simply to eat something before you go in for your dental appointment. By eating a meal and drinking some water, you ensure that you won't be starving after your appointment and your mouth and throat won't feel dry. Just make sure that you brush your teeth after eating so as to ensure that your teeth are as clean as possible for your appointment.

Be Honest

You will be asked a few different questions throughout the course of your dental cleaning. When answering these question, it is absolutely essential that you answer honestly. For example, they may ask you how often you floss your teeth. If you don't floss often, then it is important that you tell them this. This then ensures that they are more careful when flossing your teeth because they know that you are at risk for more bleeding and soreness. Also, if they ask questions in regards to pregnancy, it is important that you are honest because X-rays, nitrous oxide, and certain treatments should be avoided in this case. Lastly, some questions may be in regards to your insurance, and correct and honest answers may make the difference between having to pay extra on a bill or not.

Schedule Them Regularly

In order to keep your teeth as healthy as possible and get the most out of your dental cleanings, it is important that you schedule them regularly. Most dentists recommend that you have your teeth cleaned at least twice each year or every six months. This helps to keep your teeth clean and protected and it also allows the dentist to spot and fix cavities before they spread through more of your tooth.
